Weinberger consistently follows its chosen course to produce all of its “best of holz” products in the most eco-friendly and climate-friendly way possible.  The latest step is to shift deliveries of sawn timber from Stora Enso for the Abtenau works onto trains. To be more specific: 15 truck-loads a week will now be delivered by rail from Bad St. Leonhard to Bischofshofen. This accounts for 62% of the total consumption of sawn timber at this Weinberger location. The local family-owned business of Vierthaler Transporte has been entrusted with the last mile by truck. The resulting CO₂ savings are huge.

On the route from Bad St. Leonhard to Abtenau, a truck loaded with 24 tons of sawn timber emits 0.28 tons of CO₂ each journey. The same amount by rail to Bischofshofen only produces 0.017 tons. Not forgetting the 0.056 tons for the second leg to Abtenau by truck. This results in a total of 0.073 instead of the 0.28 tons of CO₂ emissions beforehand. Managing Director Johann Alfred Weinberger: “This means we have reduced our carbon dioxide emissions for deliveries of sawn timber by around 75%. Over the course of a year, this works out at a saving of approx. 790 tons for the climate and environment, each year.”
